Saturday 11th April 2009 - Reed beds burst into song - Sedge & Reed Warbler arrive..

Dave Riley and Myself worked a sunny, warm No1 Bed this weekend. Spring is certainly now upon us with Reed & Sedge Warblers singing away in the Eastern reed beds.
Willow Warblers are back in good numbers - Dave caught 11 retraps - 10 of which were pre 2008 at the Eastern end. At the west pool I caught 3 new Willow Warbler out of 8 Males singing.
Other migrants of note were 8 Blackcap and the first Whitethroat of the year.
It was also a good day for finches with 11 Lesser Redpoll caught including a retrap from 2006 and the first Linnet of the year.
Other birds of note were Peregrine, 6 Buzzard, Grey & Pied Wagtail, Swallow and Snipe.
Over on No4 bed Scott Kennedy had Grasshopper Warbler and Lesser Whitethroat singing.

My totals for Saturday (new) -

Willow Warbler -3

Chiffchaff -1

Blackcap -1

Linnet -1

Dunnock -2

Wren -1

Reed Bunting -3

Total = 12
